The HEAD section

The HEAD section (elements enclosed by the <HEAD></HEAD> tags) is comprised of directives to the browser and should not contain any display elements. The most common of the tags or widgets used in this section are:


This is perhaps the single most important element to search engines. They use this to index your page and words used here normally count high points in rating the page in search engines. Chose wisely, however: overuse of the same or similar words, or too many words, will count against you in the scoring.

<meta name="metaname" content="metacontent">

What's a valid metaname? Just about anything you want. Valid content? Same answer:Anything you want.

Meta tags are used to store data within a page that is never displayed to the user. This is commonly called "meta-data".
